Setup of starbotcontrol is relatively simple.  To control your x10 devices you will need a usb or com port x10 RF module, visit the requirements for starbotcontrol for more information.

 

Step 1.

Install your x10 rf module and drivers

If you don't have an x10 RF module or x10 devices visit the requirements page.

For the COM port version, you'll need to note what com port the x10 RF module is communicating on.

 

Step 2.

Get a google voice account if you don't already have one.

You may choose to have a voice account dedicated to your starbotcontrol messages.

Step 3.

Get starbotcontrol

Download and unzip the program to any location.

 

 

Step 4.

COM Port Version:

Configure your comport and macros

The unzipped archive should have a directory called config

Com port:

Edit the file in "config" called "comport.txt"

Change the value in this file to the com port that your x10 transceiver is on.

For example "com3"

Macros:

Set up your macros by editing the file called starbotconfig.csv

The format is easy to see:

macro name, X10 command

Step 5.

Run starbotcontrol

Open a DOS window and navigate to the starbotcontrol folder

Execute StarBotControl.exe

Enter your google voice username and password

starbotcontrol is now actively listening to your google voice SMS inbox for commands.

Leave the program running.  Minimize it if you want.

To exit, hit control-C or simply close the dos window.
